(Presseinfo) Quelle: http://lotheis.de/index.php?section=programm_fas 23.10. innerhalb des diesjährigen Herbstkurs " Los Ungaros" – Gitarren-Trio - Lajos Horvath, Gonzalo Mauriquee, Laszlo Szabo The «Los Ungaros» guitar trio, composed of two Hungarians and a Peruvian (the name of the group is a playful allusion to this internationality), is a valuable addition to the classical guitar scene: its members – Lajos Horváth, Gonzalo Manrique and László Szabó – are not only virtuoso and powerful players, but also artists of great sensitivity, whose musical interaction is delicate and always fine-tuned. Their interpretations exhibit full command of styles and their repertoire, which encompasses their own compositions, original works by other composers, and transcriptions of piano and orchestra pieces, is almost unlimited, especially due to the addition of the contrabass guitar. We can expect excellent, captivating concerts from these musicians. (Melitta Heinzmann, Prof. for Classical Guitar, University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna) Los Ungaros was founded in Vienna in 2006. The members of the ensemble come from Hungary and Peru – a circumstance that inspired the group’s humorous name. The goal of the three musicians is to broaden the chamber music repertoire for guitar and through the addition of a contrabass guitar to open up new technical and musical possibilities. Lajos Horváth, guitar Lajos Horváth was born in 1981 in Budapest, Hungary. He studied at the Liszt Ferenc University of Music in Budapest with Miklós Mosóczi and since 2003 at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna with Walter Würdinger. He won numerous prizes in national and international competitions – among others, he was a prize-winner in the Karl Scheit International Guitar Competition. Lajos Horváth has given several solo recitals, as well as performances with the Vienna State Opera, the Volksoper Vienna, the Vienna Chamber Opera and in ensembles for contemporary music, such as the Ensemble des 20. Jahrhunderts of the «Wien modern» festival. He completed the guitar performance programme of study with the highest distinction and the Special Prize for Artistic Merit by the Austrian Ministry of Science and Research. Since 2007, Lajos Horváth is a doctoral student at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna. Gonzalo Manrique, guitar Gonzalo Manrique was born in 1979 in Lima, Peru. He studied with Oscar Zamora at the Conservatorio Nacional de Música del Perú, where he received his concert diploma with the highest distinction in 2001. He was granted a fellowship by the Fundación Carolina and Juventudes Musicales de Madrid and moved to Spain in 2003 for a post-graduate course with Pablo de la Cruz. After further studies with Gabriel Estarellas at the Real Conservatorio de Madrid, he is currently studying guitar performance with Brigitte Zaczek and lute with Luciano Contini (within a complementary Early Music programme) at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna. He was a prize winner at the 2nd International Abel Carlevaro Competition in Montevideo, Uruguay and has performed in several solo recitals and chamber music concerts (mostly with the Aranjuez guitar quartet) in the USA, Switzerland, Belgium, Spain, England, Peru, Italy, Germany, Hungary and Austria. László Szabó, guitar, contrabass guitar László Szabó was born in 1981 in Győr, Hungary. He received his initial musical training on the guitar, flute and piano and later went on to study guitar with Rita Schaffer and Ede Roth at the Széchenyi István University in Hungary. László Szabó won the first prize in the Hungarian National Segovia Guitar Competition in 2000. He completed his university studies of chamber music and music education with the highest distinction and gave his final concert as soloist with the University Symphony Orchestra. Additionally, he was trained as a sound engineer at the Hungarian Broadcasting Corporation. László Szabó is a prize-winner in various national and international competitions. From 2005 onwards, he has been studying guitar performance with Alvaro Pierri at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna. He is also active as a composer and has contributed a number of pieces to the core repertoire of the Los Ungaros ensemble. 20.11.
